How route types affect connections

IEPL, relay, and direct routes describe different network topologies. The name alone does not determine speed. What matters is whether the entry quality, cross-border path, exit location, and congestion control fit the task at hand.

IEPL routes use relatively fixed cross-border paths to connect the entry and exit points, making the route generally more predictable. Their value is not a higher peak in one speed test, but fewer detours and less sudden variation during busy periods. For sustained transfers, online meetings, remote desktops, and longer streaming sessions, a stable path often matters more than a short-lived peak.

These routes generally cost more to provision and maintain than standard direct connections, making them better suited to continuity-sensitive tasks. Destination still matters: for Asian services, check Tokyo, Hong Kong, or Singapore first; for North American and European services, choose an IEPL exit in the corresponding region instead of following the route label alone.

Relay routes

A relay route first connects to a nearby or higher-quality entry point, then forwards traffic through an intermediate node to the target exit. Its main purpose is to optimize the cross-border path so the local network does not carry the entire international leg directly. Because the entry and exit can be adjusted separately, relay routes offer a practical balance of coverage, cost, and stability.

A relay does not necessarily add noticeable delay. A well-chosen relay can avoid an unsuitable direct path, while a relay pointed away from the target region may create extra detours. Everyday browsing, AI tools, code repositories, and routine work are often good starting points for relay routes; switch to IEPL after observing real-world stability over time.

Direct routes

A direct route connects the current network to the target exit with fewer intermediate steps and a clearer structure, while making it easier to expand city coverage. When the path is suitable, direct connections can be simple and effective. If the local carrier’s international path to the destination is unstable, they are also more exposed to detours, congestion, and differences between networks.

Direct routes suit lightweight browsing, backup exits, checking region-specific content, and temporary tasks that are less sensitive to continuity. They usually have a simpler cost structure and work well for broad coverage. If pages open normally but sustained transfers are unstable, try a relay or IEPL route in the same region rather than immediately switching to a more distant country.

Choose routes based on the task: confirm the target service region first, select a topology second, and then observe performance during sustained use. A nearby country name does not always mean a shorter real-world path.

For documents, news, code repositories, and general websites, the priority is a stable response rather than choosing a higher-cost route from the outset. Start with a relay node in the same region as the target site; when the destination is unclear, begin by testing a commonly used Asian or North American exit.

Do not judge a route only by whether the homepage opens. Continue through several pages, load images, and maintain a session for a while to reveal frequent fluctuations. If a relay is already stable, there is no need to switch just because a route is labeled “IEPL.” If performance varies within the same region, try an IEPL route.

STREAM

Streaming

Streaming checks more than the exit region; it also considers the account region, content rights, and platform policies. Choose the content’s region first, then check the streaming status in the table. Routes marked “Match platform region” are not universally suitable for every title, so the account and exit regions should correspond reasonably.

For streaming, sustained throughput and consistency matter most. After playback starts, check whether quality changes repeatedly, whether playback recovers after seeking, and whether a long session remains stable. If issues arise, change route types within the same region first; jumping to a distant region may change the catalog and complicate path diagnosis.

A complete route usually includes local access, cross-border transport, and an exit in the target region. The entry determines how the current network connects; the cross-border leg determines path stability; and the exit affects the region seen by the target website. Judging only by the exit city overlooks the first two parts, while judging only by the route label may select a path that does not match the destination.

The cities and types shown on the route page should therefore be treated as filtering criteria, not an isolated ranking. A route suited to one region may not suit another, and a route good for downloads may not suit sustained interaction. Building a consistent selection by use case is more likely to deliver stable results than constantly chasing changes.
